Cedarmere Mill is part of Nassau County's Cedarmere Museum, the Roslyn Harbor historic garden estate of William Cullen Bryant, a prominent 19th century poet, newspaper editor and civic leader. The presence of a mill at Cedarmere dates back to Richard Kirk, who built the house at Cedarmere in 1787. 

The mill functioned consecutively as a paper mill, planning mill, and lastly as a glass-cutting business. Bryant bought the property and buildings from Joseph Mouton in 1843.  On Friday, 29 June 1849, the mill building was destroyed by fire.  In 1862 Bryant had the Gothic Revival Mill and summer cottage reconstructed.  Although some historians have suggested that Calvert Vaux designed the Mill, it now seems most probable that Frederick S. Copley was the architect.
