Established in 1909, this address is the third home of a private women's club completed in 1932 to the design of Thomas Harlan Ellett, for which he was awarded the Gold Medal of The Architectural League of New York in 1933.

The property is a NYC Landmark within the Upper East Side Historic District.

The scope of work, which included replacement of the steam heating and the antiquated fire and life safety systems, mandated a phased construction project to allow the club to remain open during the majority of the project, except during summer months when the club closes.

The site is unique because the building lot extends through the middle of the block with a raised terrace in lieu of a rear yard that connects the ten-story guest rooms and club rooms to a three-story ballroom entrance. This made replacing service lines between the buildings difficult and a time-consuming effort. As all of the club rooms were impacted to some degree, this provided the opportunity to renew the decor.
